Dubai: Where Culture Meets Luxury
Okay, honey, first things first—Dubai is a vibe. From the moment I stepped off that 15-hour Emirates flight, I knew this wasn’t your average destination. Dubai is the perfect fusion of modern luxury and rich cultural heritage. The futuristic skyline will have you gasping in awe one minute, and the next, you’re wandering through bustling souks with the smell of saffron and frankincense in the air. It’s a beautiful, multicultural melting pot where tradition and innovation meet, and honey, that alone makes it worth the trip.
As a black woman and a foodie, I was here for ALL of it. From the diversity to the flavors to the deep cultural experiences, Dubai felt like a new kind of home—a place where I could be both a wanderer and a queen.
The Foodie Heaven You Didn’t Know You Needed
Now you know I didn’t go all the way to Dubai just to sip on some basic iced coffee. Oh no, boo. I was on a mission to explore all the culinary treasures Dubai has to offer, and let me tell you, the food scene in Dubai is it. Think: flavors from every corner of the world all in one place, plus some authentic Emirati dishes that had me rethinking my entire spice rack at home.
One of the highlights? Dinner at Al Khayma Heritage Restaurant, where I savored the most flavorful lamb I’ve ever had. This wasn’t just a meal, honey; it was an experience. Surrounded by rich history and mouthwatering aromas, I felt transported through time with every bite. And don’t get me started on the desserts, because if you’ve never had Arabic sweets like luqaimat, then baby, you haven’t lived!
Cultural Connections and Unexpected Friendships
Now you know I always say that food brings people together, but this trip took that truth to another level. Dubai introduced me to some amazing souls, like Sana, the woman who gave me the most stunning henna and shared stories of her family, and Armia, an Egyptian who served me my first cup of Arabic coffee. These are the moments I live for—the connections, the stories, the shared experiences that make travel so much more than just ticking boxes off a bucket list.
Dubai, as glitzy as it is, still has a way of making you slow down and soak in the human connections. And honey, that’s what we’re all about at Black Foodies Travel—finding those connections through the lens of culture and cuisine. Whether you’re sipping on karak tea at a street-side stall or having a Michelin-star meal, food is that universal language we all understand.
Why Dubai Should Be On Your Bucket List
If Dubai isn’t already on your must-visit list, let me give you the tea on why it should be. This city will have you feeling like royalty, whether you’re lounging in a luxury hotel or exploring the old town’s rich history. Plus, Dubai’s commitment to culture and innovation means that you’ll experience something new and exciting around every corner.
But more importantly, Dubai is a place where black women like us can see ourselves in every space. From the entrepreneurs to the expats, to the travelers who look like you and me—Dubai is welcoming and inclusive. And sis, we deserve to experience places where we are seen, celebrated, and appreciated.
